Apple Launches High-Performance 20"
Multiple Scan Display for Graphics and Publishing Professionals
Two-Page Color Display is Power Macintosh and Windows Compatible
NEW YORK, New York--March 14, 1994--Apple Computer, Inc. today
announced the Apple Multiple Scan 20 Display , a 20-inch, two-page,
color Trinitron display that provides maximum viewing area and
resolution for manipulating large graphic images. With an U.S. Apple
price of $2,149, the Apple Multiple Scan 20 Display is now available
through Apple authorized resellers worldwide.
Designed for use by graphics and publishing professionals, the Apple
Multiple Scan 20 Display delivers high performance, multiple
resolution capabilities and plug-and-play cross-platform
compatibility at a very competitive price.
"The Multiple Scan 20 Display completes the solution for users who
need a high quality publishing system," said Don Strickland, vice
president of Apple's Imaging and Publishing division. "A new display
with this level of performance is the perfect compliment for the new
generation of Power Macintosh computers. Many are forecasting the
increased horsepower and inherent graphics capabilities of the new
PowerPC processor-based systems will lead to increased demand for
larger displays and improved on-screen performance."
"We develop brochures, advertisements and posters for our clients
using a Macintosh Quadra and applications like QuarkXpress and
Adobe PhotoShop," said Nicki Riedel, president, Black and White
Desktop Publishing Inc., Cupertino, California. "The Apple Multiple
Scan 20 Display is ideal for our business since we frequently work
with large images and have to get a clear idea of the
appearance of the finished product before printing in large volume."
Product Features
The Multiple Scan 20 Display features a Sony Trinitron picture tube,
allowing increased brightness, contrast, focus and brilliant colors.
Its multiple scan capability lets users select the resolution that is
optimal for specific applications without restarting the computer.
Users may increase resolutionfor viewing full-page layouts, while lower
resolutions may be selected for presentation, QuickTime movie playback, fine
pixel editing, and for the vision impaired.
The Multiple Scan 20 Display supports all the standard Macintosh
resolutions from 640x480 to 1152x870, in addition to higher
resolutions up to 1280x1024 with appropriate third-party display
cards for Macintosh computers or IBM-PC compatible computers.
Included in the Display software are ColorSync profiles for better
overall system color calibration.
For increased performance, the Multiple Scan 20 Display can be paired
with the Macintosh Display Card 24AC for full 24-bit color and high-
speed QuickDraw acceleration throughout the full range of Macintosh
resolutions.
The Display complies fully with MPR II standards for low electrical
and magnetic emissions. It also complies with the EPA's Energy Star
conservation guidelines by switching into low-power mode during idle
periods.
Compatibility
The Apple Multiple Scan 20 Display offers complete plug-and-play
compatibility with Power Macintosh computers, Macintosh Quadra
computers, and any system using the Macintosh Display Card 24AC.
Apple is supplying software with the new display that allows
resolution switching without restart, even when using the on-board
video of the Macintosh.
For other Macintosh systems and display cards, third-party cable
adapters enable the Apple Multiple Scan 20 Display to run at higher
resolutions. Enhance Cable Technology of San Jose, Calif., offers a
toll-free number (800-343-2425) for resellers and end users who want
to connect a Multiple Scan Display to other Macintosh products, such as the
Macintosh 8/24 card, Macintosh II, PowerBook computers and Duo Dock products.
